CDC/ Update on Japanese Encephalitis Vaccines/ Health Canada notice of decision for IXIARO®
CDC: Announcement: January 25th, 2010
There are currently two Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccines available in the United States:
JE-VAX
®
(distributed by sanofi pasteur) and
IXIARO
®
(distributed by Novartis Vaccines).

On October 29, 2009, Health Canada issued a Notice of Compliance to Intercell AG for the vaccine Ixiaro

Ixiaro

is a purified and inactivated Japanese encephalitis whole virus vaccine derived from the attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus strain SA

-14-2.
Ixiaro
®
is indicated for active immunization against Japanese encephalitis for
persons 18 years of age and older.
